FLORENCE, Ky., November 1, 2021 – At DISCOVER 2021, Mazak featured the part processing versatility of its HQR-200MSY Twin-Spindle, Twin-Turret Turning Center paired. The machine features two high performance spindles along with upper and lower turrets that facilitate untended complete Done-In-One® part processing from raw material to finished component in one setup. Such capability makes the machine well suited for medium- to high-volume applications and provides a gateway to automation.
The machine’s twin opposed turning spindles deliver 30 hp each and speeds of 5,000 rpm. They also offer full C-axis CNC control for part positioning and contouring at a resolution of 0.0001°. Additionally, the upper and lower 12-station tool turrets enable balance cutting and accommodate fixed or rotating tools. Each turret is capable of Y-axis travel that enables off-centerline machining for processing a wide variety of workpieces. Both turrets employ 7.5 hp (5.6 kW) spindles for milling. The HQR-200MSY handles bar stock up to 2.55″ (64.7 mm) in diameter.
The HQR-200MSY’s twin-spindle, twin-turret configuration offers a multiple process options. The main and secondary spindles can operate together or separately, machining a single part on all surfaces through a coordinated “hand-off” between spindles, or two different parts can be machined at the same time on the same machine.
Since the twin turrets can operate independently or together on the same part, two features can be machined simultaneously. Alternately, balanced machining strategies can be employed that permit two tools to work together on the same feature such as rough and finish turning, rough and finish milling, or opposed feature drilling, tapping or boring utilizing the Y-axes. In cases where the part configuration permits, balanced machining can reduce cycle times by up to 25 percent.
